I've recently been called to do music appreciation in Relief Society. Anyone have any good ideas on things I can do.
I'm mostly trying to use the hymn book where I can.

Try looking up the person who wrote the song and give a small history about them.

My ward is doing a thing where we write down our name and favorite hymn on a piece of paper, then once a week, our music person draws one, and who ever wrote it tells everyone why it is there favorite hymn. The only problem is that you get several duplicates. On the plus side, it allows people to share something personal about themselves which can often help them feel more a part of Relief Society and what is going on.

We as a ward are just starting to make our music time so much fun because we have a recently called in rs sister called as the music leader and she is 19 so they bring fresh ideas in all the time and the music is very varied and very beautfuil. we are also singing alot more in the scarement meeting which is great because we feel like we have a part to play when we are asked by the bishop if we will sing so during the music time we will practise a new song. Other times the sister will just choose a song and then she will give a brief description on it and share a scripture that goes with the song- Also another good one that we had today at church was where the music time song fell in line with the lesson
